About Rally Magazine

Rally is an innovative multimedia magazine combining print, digital and social media to bridge the gap between storytelling and activism. We believe in creating access points for any person to engage with diverse creative, cultural and political perspectives. This storytelling approach is designed to expand empathy, guiding audiences towards meaningful and collective action.

About the role

We are currently seeking four Advisory Board members for our Beyond the Gender Binary Issue.

Led by Guest Editor Amity Mara, this issue is dedicated to amplifying voices and stories of lives beyond the gender binary as they intersect with culture and history in so-called Australia.

Advisory Board members will provide strategic guidance on the stories commissioned for this issue, as well as review content, aligned to
Rally’s mission of expanding empathy and fostering action.

What we need from you:
Content and contributor advice: To review a proposed content and contributor list, and provide feedback and advice.
Impact partnership advice: Provide feedback and advice during the development of our collective action list to drive readers towards.
Content review: To review the final content in the issue, and provide feedback and advice.

What we're looking for
Lived experience and professional/creative experience related to being trans, gender diverse, non-binary, a Sistergirl or Brotherboy, or having any other culturally specific gender identity, in so-called Australia.
A passion for multimedia storytelling and social justice.
Strong understanding of activism, community-building, and cultural or political advocacy.
Excellent communication and collaborative skills.

What you’ll get from us
Remuneration: $250 for your time (approximately 10 hours across a 1-year production cycle)
Promotion: A spot for your work in our Read Watch Listen section.
Amplification: A say in what collective action we encourage readers to engage with for the issue.
Timelines

We are a slow multimedia magazine, therefore we approach our production schedule by always prioritising the health and wellbeing of our team and contributors. As a result, the timelines below provide a rough guide but may be subject to change.
EOI closes: 31 July 2026
Production period: Late 2026 - Late 2027
